Active School

In St. Joseph’s we have already received three Active flags in recognition of all the active work we do both inside the classroom and outdoors. We were the first school in Offaly to receive their third Active flag. This year we are hoping to apply for our fourth Active flag. We are delighted to have our Active Walkway up and running in St. Joseph’s and we really enjoy using the walkway for our movement breaks. We are looking forward to another fantastic year of movement and activity!

St. Joseph’s Active Rap

In  St. Joseph’s we’re proud to say,

That we are active every day,

We walk, skip, jump and run,

Every day we have good fun

ESSD 2021

One of the highlights of September every year is European School Sports Day which we celebrated on Friday 24th. The boys and girls were delighted with the chance to wear their sports clothes and jerseys to school on Friday, there were lots of proud Tullamore and Offaly supporters donning their colours. Every class took on the challenge to complete 120 minutes of activity throughout the day. It was also National walkway day so we all tried to get active on our walkway at some part of the day. It was a very active day, we hope everyone enjoyed it!

National Fitness Day

National Fitness Day was celebrated across the school on September 23rd. From morning circuits, completing the active walkway to dance and movement breaks, lots of fun and exercise was had across the school. The Health Promoting committee also ran a poster competition with the focus on being active. All of the posters were brilliant and it was a difficult job to choose some winners. We now have some lovely artwork on display around the school to remind everyone to stay active! Well done everyone!

September 2021

We were delighted to welcome back our coaches from Offaly Sports Partnership for a fitness session this month. The boys and girls from Senior Infants to Second class had great fun doing the speed challenges.

ACTIVE WEEK 2021

What a great week of fun and activity! The boys and girls enjoyed obstacle courses, active stations, dance sessions, musical statues  to name just a few of the fun activities. On Friday we had tours to O’ Connor Park GAA grounds and the Active Walkway launch as well as a very special treat of an ice cream truck. We even got a medal in recognition of all the activity carried out over the week. We can’t wait for next year already!!!

June Active Diaries

We were delighted to receive our Active diaries for the month of June from Offaly Sports Partnership. Everyone worked very hard doing physical activities after school and  all completed diaries were entered into a draw at the end of term. Our Active Committee announced the winners and the boys and girls were thrilled to receive some sports items for prizes. We also sent our diaries into Offaly Sports Partnership and were delighted to win 2 prizes in our age categories. Well done to everyone for taking part!

Active Walkway

Term 3 20/21 was a particularly exciting one in St.Joseph’s as we launched our Active Walkway. With help from our neighbours Scoil Eoin Phóil, we decided on a route and made a map of the area. Each class was given a folder of activities to complete on the Walkway. We had a very special morning during Active Week where members of our Special Olympics team helped to cut the ribbon. Our Active Committee were also on hand to help with the organising of the day. They set up some fun activities for the route along with some motivational posters to encourage everyone along the way. We hope everyone enjoys using the Walkway for many years! It is a fantastic resource and we are really enjoying putting it to use!

Santa Dash

Lots of excitement was had running around our school in our Christmas jumpers for Santa Dash 2020!
