We joyfully celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Week) from the 11th to the 15th of March. During this special week, everyone made a tremendous effort to incorporate more Irish into our daily routines and celebrations.
Exciting Activities for All Classes
Throughout the week, all classes participated in a variety of exciting activities that celebrated our Irish culture and language:
- Irish Dancing Lessons: The festivities kicked off with each class receiving Irish dancing lessons for the entire month of March. Catríona from Scoil Rince Lár Tíre led these sessions, bringing the joy and rhythm of traditional Irish dance to our school.
- Traditional Music Performance: We were thrilled to welcome a traditional music group from the Sacred Heart School, who treated us to a fantastic performance. Adding to the musical celebration, our very own staff members also showcased their talents with a lively trad music session.
Lá Glas (Green Day)
On “Lá Glas” (Green Day), everyone donned green attire as a reminder to use more Irish throughout the day. The highlight of the day was the Rith Mór Glas (Big Green Run), where students and staff took to the school grounds for a fun run. There were even reports of a mischievous leprechaun spotted on the loose!
Teidí Seosamh’s Visit
Teidí Seosamh, our beloved teddy, joined each class for the week and took part in all our activities. Many classes created books documenting his adventures, written as Gaeilge. These stories captured the spirit of the week and allowed students to practice their Irish in a creative way.
Tráth na gCeist and Buddy Activities
Throughout the week, some classes participated in Tráth na gCeist (Quiz), testing their knowledge of Irish language and culture. Other classes paired up as buddies to read stories, sing songs, and chat as Gaeilge, fostering a sense of community and learning together.
